The ST. FRANCIS COLLEGE OF BROOKLYN TERRIERS! (SFC)

Congratulations ! As I will be in attendance on Saturday February 1 against their hateful rivals (just made that up) Sacred Heart Pioneers of Connecticut.

Write up for Game :

Record : The Terriers are coming in with a record of 10 – 11 for the season and 4 – 5 in Northeast Conference (NEC ; RPI 27 of 32) play, good for 7th place. The league is headed by the Merrimack Warriors (14 – 8 overall, 8 -1) who are on a 7 game win streak and just took down the beloved Terriers, Thursday night at home 61 – 50. The Pioneers on the other hand are (13 – 9 , 6 – 3) respectively and in 3rd. This game could have serious season ending standing implications, if SFC can pull out a W and get back to .500. Both squads made their Conference Tournament last year (8 of 11 teams qualify) but both sustained first round knockouts.

SFC Player Stats : The Terriers are led by (JR.) #4 Chauncey Hawkins. A 5’8 guard from Spring Valley, NY who is averaging 14.5pts and 3 assist a game. They have a nice guard – big man combination as their second best contributor is (SR.) #33 Deniz Celen a 6- 8 Forward from Turkey averaging 12.5pts 6.5rbs. He will have his hands full as the Pioneer’s best player is 6’6 Forward (JR.) E.J Anosike (15 & 11boards). Both squads rely heavily on their starters for major minutes, so endurance will be the ultimate test. SFC best out of conference win comes against the Lafayette Leopards of the Patriot League on 11/9/19.

Campus/Arena :

The campus is located in Downtown Brooklyn of New York, as the title of their school indicates. A quick dive into SFC suggest an enrollment of just more than 2300 students and located in an urban setting. Mainly a commuter school they have very little on-campus housing available. Minutes from Manhattan, Downtown Brooklyn is most known for where the Brooklyn Bridge lets out, as well as Brooklyn Bridge Park and some of the best pizza in all of NYC (Grimaldi’s, Juliana’s and Front Street). Finally, the Terriers play basketball at THE POPE PHYSICAL ATHLETIC CENTER , or more easily known as The Pope, which houses up to 1200 people and is the smallest capacity for its conference (NEC).

Gambling :

This post is coming out 2 days before the game so the line has not yet been set. I expect SFC to be underdogs. Let’s call it Terriers +3. I will most likely be taking SFC ML and under.
